Inspired by “mythology, the Italian renaissance and poetry”, Hussein channels beauty into all of her artwork. Studying glass work in Illinois, Hussein learnt “the tricks of the trade in concrete” and now sculpts intricate copper pieces. Her work is not only exuberant and fantastical but also prioritises sustainability and the use of organic materials.
Hussein has worked on a vast range of projects including, making intricate objects for a Tim Walker set, the design of elaborate bespoke copper wigs for the V&A’s ‘Opera: Passion, Power and Politics’ exhibition, to creating vast and dramatic sculptures for atrium spaces.
Recently, she created silver plated copper pieces for the Spice Girls to be worn on their reunion tour. They wear the pieces in Act 3 and sing Viva Forever & Let Love Lead The Way. This beautiful jewellery is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, sparkling, curving and contouring around the Spice Girls’ individual body shapes and styles. This truly emphasises Hussein’s ethos that none of her work will ever be, “the same twice…every piece is a total original.”
